The Design team at MLB works across the entire fan journey - from primary research with the fans and clubs, brand creative, in-park experiences, websites, apps, games, streaming and interactive products. We take pride in designing delightful fan focused experiences that enhance the sport. Paying attention to the trends shaping sports and media, while constantly raising the bar on entertainment and delight for every aspect of the MLB experience. We do this through the practice of a fan focused approach to product design, investing in design systems and content tooling, UX writing, and design research

We’re looking for a Principal Product Designer who will build out and maintain individual games as well as the Predictive Gaming Platform for MLB. The expectations of our fans are high and so we are committed to go to extraordinary lengths to produce world-class work that exceeds their expectation - you will be working in a place where design is highly valued. 

This role will lead Product Design for our Predictive Gaming Platform. Games including MLB Beat the Streak, MLB Quick Pick and in-development titles make this Platform engaging for all types of MLB fans.

Although we all focus on specific areas the boundaries between teams are permeable, so you can certainly expect to collaborate with other designers on a broad set of design challenges that don’t fall neatly into the Predictive Gaming Platform category. 

You will:

• Lead the creative direction to create, evolve, and maintain the highest quality game design platform in Sports, capturing the spirit of baseball and scaling across a wide range of platforms
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering and Editorial teams to design and define a platform built on iteration and experimentation
• Work closely with User Research to validate and test new features and game concepts with real fans
• Maintain and improve the experience of our existing suite of games
• Inspire, motivate, and lead through work collaborating with team members across experience levels

You may be a good fit if you:

• Have experience designing predictive and/or pick’em style games as well as platform based solutions for design experimentation
• Have experience designing mobile apps, particularly those in the gaming world.
• Have demonstrated experience working hand in glove with engineering teams to ensure design solutions are realized successfully
• Are fan obsessed and have the ability to capture the emotions and drama of a subject and reflect it in a practical user experience 
• Make ideas happen - You have a strong track record of turning design visions into reality by building momentum focusing on impact in one area and growing
• Have experience managing complete redesigns of products from kick-off to shipping 
• Have an outcome focused approach that ensures that your design is having a measurable impact in the real world 
• Have a growth mindset, and are focused on continuous improvement based on feedback and experimentation  
• You can manage a varied portfolio of small, medium and large initiatives at the same time 

Qualifications

• 10+ years in product and/or game design. Strong portfolio of shipped consumer facing products. 
• You’ve had 7+ years of experience in designing for mobile with a strong portfolio of shipped products of high quality and with real impact. 
• You have 3+ years of experience in senior individual contributor roles - principal, architect design level roles.
• A deep understanding of platform based design solutions focusing on experimentation and continuous iteration

• You are a compelling communicator and storyteller with an ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and presentation skills. 
• You can demonstrate a highly collaborative approach with experience in “organizational transformation” practices such as design thinking workshops and design sprints. 
• Able to  balance optimizing for speed and quality as well as doing future foundational work all while iterating on existing products.
